Just a quick request to anyone who might be able to point me towards some useful software to convert Lotus Notes documents into PDF files. I know that there are a number of applications/add-ons out there, but most do some, but not all, of my wishlist:
1 - enables printing of Lotus Notes documents to a PDF file
2 - doesn't require a client side installation of a printer driver
3 - doesn't require any client side dll files
4 - doesn't require http to be running on the server
5 - handles rich text fields without conversion/issue
6 - enables the pdf generation to be done programmatically
7 - is quick enough to be real time
8 - is free/open source (ok - this isn't a "must have" but would be nice in an ideal world)
The documents are just normal documents - but they do contain rich text fields which can potentially have formatting (eg letter templates, images, tables etc)
anyone got/used/heard of something that might help?
(note items 4, 5 and 6 - they seem to be the biggies - I can't seem to find something which does them both)
also - if anyone has played with iText, I'd be interested to hear how it went with rich text fields...

Interesting ... I just did a search to see if anybody has provided sample code and here's one such article: http://searchdomino.techtar...
The sample Java code is in a Word documanet (link to in the article) at http://searchdomino.techtar...
And the article author then added a link to a simpler version at http://searchdomino.techtar...

I have looked at iText, but the issue that I have is that I want to print the Notes document - not create a new pdf based on my document - the difference is subtle, but far reaching.
- consider the case of a Rich Text Field:
If I were to use iText, it appears that I would need to interpret my rich text field and create all the relevant PDF items - tables, fonts, colours etc.
In my case, the Rich Text is the key element - we have merged a series of fields into the Notes document and want to produce a pdf which looks the same. Essentially, I just want to print the document as it appears in the Notes client.
(that`s my understanding of how iText will work anyway)

Note sure if this would be an exact match for you requirements, but have you looked at XML FO. I used it a while ago to convert a HTML page to PDF using Java. You might need to resort to attaching the resulting PDF to a document.
